The first earthquake, with a 7.8 magnitude, hit near the city of Elâzığ in eastern Turkey, followed by a second 7.5 magnitude earthquake in the same region just minutes later. The incident also brought several powerful aftershocks, causing widespread destruction across the region. This is a disaster of unprecedented scale that has affected more than 10 million people.
The affected region covers ten cities in Turkey, including Elâzığ, Malatya, and Diyarbakır, as well as the north of Syria. The earthquake has caused many buildings to collapse, leaving thousands of people homeless, injured, or trapped under the rubble. The local authorities have already reported more than 35.000 deaths and over a 100.000 injuries. Rescue teams are working tirelessly to reach the affected areas and provide emergency relief.
